As the human race becomes more and more advanced, we are becoming more aware of the negative effects we have on the environment around us. Moving forward is proving to be a double edged sword. While we all want to see new technologies and processes being used to make our own lives more convenient, we have to make sure that we do so without disrupting the environment around us. Since there are many groups of people that either do not have the same regard for environmental issues or are simply unaware of the effect they are having, environmental law is doing its part in keeping these groups in check. What many people do not understand is that environmental law has to come from us, the citizens. If we see something that we believe to be unjust or harmful to our duty to let people know about it so that an environmental law can be put into place. Below you will find ways to increase awareness about environmental issues.
1. The Internet – This is one of the best ways to reach tons of people at the same time. If you can get people behind whichever environmental issues you would like to bring into the spotlight, then you will be that much closer to the people that create environmental law. The lawmakers in this country have an ear open to the public. If there are environmental issues that are causing a stir on the Internet, you can bet that the politicians are going to hear about it, and they may choose to push for the environmental law to be included in the law books.
2. Petitions – A great way to show how many people are behind certain environmental issues is by creating a petition, and doing so has never been easier. The Internet has come to save the day once again. It is no longer necessary to go door to door collecting signatures when you want an environmental law to be considered. There are websites available that have petition templates available to visitors. You can simply add information about the environmental issues that you believe need to be addressed and people can visit the website to provide e-signatures to show their support for the environmental law.
3. Protests – In the United States, we have the right to conduct a peaceful protest if we find fault in the direction our country is headed. A protest is a great way to increase awareness about environmental issues, especially if you invite the media along. When you have a large group of people and national coverage, the politicians do not have a choice but to hear about your ideas on environmental law.
The environmental issues that you feel need to be addressed can be heard if you approach them in the right way. Let your representatives know that you want changes made to environmental law and you might just make a difference.
